If you’re planning on having a pool party this summer, you need to think of ways to keep your guests refreshed and entertained at the same time. Swimming pool games satisfy both criteria! Here are the top 3 games you can play whether you have an in-ground or above-ground swimming pool:

  1. Marco Polo – This game is a classic, and safe enough to play even in shallow pools. One player, who is “It”, closes his eyes or wears blackened swimming goggles. He shouts “Marco!” while the other players say “Polo!” he follows the sound of the other players’ voices, and tags another person while his eyes are still shut. The tagged person becomes “It”.
  2. Volleyball – Volleyball is an exciting game to play whether on land or in the water. For this game, you’ll need two teams of players, a volleyball net and, of course, the ball. Play this game in the same manner as you would in a beach volleyball game. Water volleyball is perfect for above-ground pools since they are an even depth, usually 4.5-5 feet.
  3. Beach Ball Race – This is a fun one for the kids. Each armed with a beach ball, two players push the balls with their noses across the surface of the water. Whoever reaches the other side of the pool first, wins. This game can also be played as a relay. In this variation, players will have to turn around and push the ball with their noses until they reach the starting line. Then, another team member does the relay until everyone in the group has played. The fastest group wins.

Summer is definitely a lot more fun when you have family and friends to hang out with. Backyard Ocean recommends putting these swimming pool games to the test at your next pool party!
