Having a swimming pool in your own backyard is a great way to cool off, especially during summer. The area also provides an excellent place for entertaining guests or just spending time with family and friends.

If you’re thinking of building a pool, here are some tips to help you out:

  • Consider your budget.

The cost of a swimming pool depends on the type you have in mind—in-ground, above-ground, or collapsible. If budget is limited, an above-ground pool might be best for you. Take note, however, that there are other expenses involved like chemicals, accessories, and decking.

  • Study your location restrictions.

Although new technology provides ways for the installation or construction of pools in any backyard, there are other caveats to doing so like steep slopes and limited access to construction equipment. Measure your yard size accurately and inspect soil conditions before you hire someone.

  • Get permits.

Not all cities give the go signal for the construction and installation of swimming pools and spas. Visit your local municipality to find out about pool permits.

  • Hire the right contractor.

Choosing the right contractor for the job involves plenty of investigation. You want only the best builder to handle the project, so ask around for referrals. Find out how long the contractors have been in business, if they are insured, and how successful their projects are.

  • Update your insurance policy.

Your swimming pool is already covered by homeowners insurance. Find out whether your insurance company charges a different rate from what you are already paying.

A swimming pool right is not only a great investment, but also an exciting reward for all your years of hard work. However, you want to put that hard-earned money in the right place, so careful planning is important.

As spring draws closer, we look forward to spending more time under the sun. Before we could do that, we need to get rid of the remnants of winter.
One way to welcome the new season is to open up the swimming pool. Instead of hiring a professional to clean it, use some old-fashioned elbow grease.

  1. Check your equipment and supplies.
  2. Before anything else, make sure that you have everything you need. You don’t want to be in the middle of cleaning only to find out that one of your filters is broken or that you ran out of pool chemicals.

  3. Remove the pool cover.
  4. Get rid of accumulated water, leaves, and debris on top of the cover. Drain the water first then rake the leaves before you remove it completely. This way, no additional dirt will get into the pool.

  5. Reattach your pool equipment.
  6. Connect the filters, cartridges, heaters, and other equipment. Take out the plugs and other winterizing accessories.

  7. Fill the pool with water.
  8. Make sure the water reaches the skimmer. Run the pool vacuum for a few hours before adding the pool chemicals.

  9. Treat the pool water.
  10. See to it that the pH level of the water is balanced. Use a pH balancer as needed. Shock the pool and use algaecide to prevent algae growth.

As soon as the pool is ready, you can jump in and enjoy the water. Make it even more fun by asking a few friends over to celebrate the arrival of spring with a pool party!
